Welcome to Auburn Bay

auburn entrance

Auburn Bay is one of Calgary's premiere lake communities. The vision of the developers was to create a community where the residents would feel like they were living in cottage country. I think they succeeded! Family life is centered around the 43 acre fresh water lake and Auburn House which sits in a private 13 acre park. Three is an endless array of activities to be pursued here no matter what the season -skating, swimming, sailing, fishing and a spray park. Throughout the community there are also many paths, paved or gravel, for those who like to walk, run or cycle.

Auburn Bay offers many different styles of housing with something to suit for every stage of life. There are many condos and townhouses to choose from if you are looking to get into the real estate market. There are also single family homes in laned neighbourhoods which may or may not have a detached garage in the backyard. These offer excellent value for young families and even the opportunity to increase your equity if you wanted to add a garage at some point.

Other neighbourhoods feature move-up style homes with attached garages while estate-style homes are an option on or near the lake.

SCHOOLS

As one of Calgary's newer communities, Auburn Bay is home to two recently built elementary schools. Older students are bussed to high schools in surrounding communities. I would always recommend that you contact the appropriate school division to determine which school your children will attend.

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Seton Fire Hall

Fire, Police, and EMS - "9-1-1" service is available throughout the City of Calgary.

The Seton Fire Station #41 opened in 2014. It services the south communities of Auburn Bay, Cranston, Mahogany and Seton. It is located near the hospital at 3790 Seton Drive SE.

MEDICAL SERVICES

The South Health Campus is Calgary's newest hospital. This state-of-the-art hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient services, including an emergency department. Located at 4448 Front Street SE in neighbouring Seton, the hospital rises above the surrounding prairie and is visible from miles away. You always know you are getting close to home when it pops up on the horizon! Many medical professionals choose to call Auburn Bay home given it's close proximity to the hospital.

As the Seton area continues to develop other medical services are being established. Among them is AgeCare Seton which offers supportive living for seniors.

SHOPPING

Auburn Bay is essentially a residential community. The Seton area, just to the south of Auburn Bay, offers the necessary services and shopping and is already home to a major grocery store, a pharmacy, banks and restaurants. Future development will include everything from boutiques to large retailers to the new cinema complex currently under construction.

Another major shopping hub is centered around 130th Avenue SE. Here you will find home improvement stores such as Home Depot and Lowes and other major retailers like HomeSense and Canadian Tire.

Deerfoot Meadows is a little farther north on Deerfoot Trail. This area offers many shopping choices including Ikea and Costco.

RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES

As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of recreation opportunities available at the lake and its surrounding park. There is also a YMCA attached to the South Health Campus.

For those that like to golf, Auburn Bay is located close to quite a few courses.

  • Cottonwood Golf and Country Club, located at 236 Avenue East and 80th Street, just north of Dunbow Road.
  • McKenzie Meadows Golf Club - 17215 McKenzie Meadows Dr. SE

There is plenty to do and see in Southern Alberta. Some of Calgary's attractions are quite famous, for instance, the Calgary Stampede. Ten days of summer fun with the rodeo and chuck wagon races, rides, exhibitions, pancake breakfasts and the Stampede parade. Big name country music stars usually perform during Stampede as well.

The Calgary Zoo, Telus Spark, and the new Studio Bell (which is home to the National Music Centre) are all fantastic attractions in Calgary and well worth a visit.
